After the recent Las Vegas debate the press played up Clinton's debate response to the recent criticims from John Edwards and Barack Obama on her voting record and an inability to give straight answers regarding her position on various important issues, including trade issues. Remember this?

And I don't mind taking hits on my record on issues, but when somebody starts throwing mud, at least we can hope that it's both accurate and not right out of the Republican playbook.

Its a good point she made, even if it was off the mark related to Edwards specific criticisms of her, which if anything, were issue-based criticisms from the left - not the right.

So why isn't her campaign listening?

Well as if this wasn't bad enough: Clinton Campaign Gets Caught Planting Questions it gets worse.

"In light of a weak debate performance, not to mention a persistent inability to answer the tough questions, it appears the Clinton campaign has adopted a new strategy of planting questions," John Edwards’ Communications Director Chris Kofinis said. "It’s what the Clinton campaign calls the politics of planting."

And apparently it isn't actually a new strategy. Fox now has up an exclusive interview from someone claiming he was asked to plant an Iraq question at a Clinton event:

Today, Caucus4Priorities, the political arm of Iowans for Sensible Priorites, a grassroots activist group that has been pushing presidential candidates and Congress to reduce unnecessary military spending and waste, and rearrange spending priorities to meet American's continuing unmet needs, endorsed John Edwards for president in Des Moines.

This is a pretty big deal - they have collected 10,000 signatures of people who are looking for a candidate to change spending priorities, 10% of the estimated 100,000 caucus turn-out in 2004.

Looks like there just isn't much let up on Clinton after the debate from any of the campaigns. Guess thats why being the frontrunner for so long with 60 days still to go is never easy.

Here's the latest from the Edwards campaign:

Pretty much says it all. The greatest obstacle to Clinton's campaign appears to be herself. How about we have an election, not a coronation? And a real discussion on the issues.

"Now I have a really simple rule," he said. "When you get asked a yes-or-no question, you can't answer it yes-and-no. That doesn't work, and we saw some of that the other night."

"What I heard was Sen. Clinton saying she wanted to be for change, but defending a broken system in Washington," he continued. "Saying that she wanted to end the war, but she would keep combat troops in Iraq who would continue combat missions in Iraq. Saying that she would stand up to George Bush on the issue of going to war in Iran, but voting for a resolution in the Senate that enabled George Bush to do exactly what he wanted to do. Saying that she didn't want to change anything about Social Security in public, but then in private saying she might be for raising the cap on the Social Security tax. See, my view is, we need to say the same thing all the time."
